~S~ Friends of the Veng "Special Maps" Project !
This is our center for all questions and discussions about the "custom maps" (=user made maps).
Here you can post:
- Bugs (floating buildings, jump jets not working etc.)
- Problems with MapPack installers
- Problems with original single map installers
- Evaluation of the graphics and overall playability
- Problems with the game server
- Which are your favorite custom maps
and so on....
Furthermore, suggestions for more new maps are welcome

Hi allerseits,
damit ich nicht in 10 verschiedenen Foren posten muss, gibts jetzt hier eine zentrale Plattform für alle Fragen die neuen Maps betreffend. Wenn also jemand irgendwelche Probleme mit den Maps bemerkt, bitte hier posten. Genauso aber auch Vorschläge für weitere Maps, die in den Test aufgenommen werden sollen.

Installation: Download all MapPacks. The packs are self-extracting zip archives which will copy all map files to Veng program folders. Please make sure destination folder is correct and adjust it if needed!
The default will fit a typical german MW4 installation:
C:\Programme\Microsoft Games\MechWarrior Vengeance
For a typical US installation you would need to change this to:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\MechWarrior Vengeance

Many of our members have already downloaded & "installed" these paks.
I'll make sure that the admins of: TW<TimberWolves>, OTC<OldTimersClan> & CLS<ClanLynxSpain> get to know about this project.
Our (Weekend) servers "CT ISLAND RANGE" and "CT SERVEUR" will surely have these maps in the 'cycle list'.

1) I've already informed the following Veng units about the "special maps" project :
- CLS
- CT
- DD (Destiny Dragons => todays CSA, MW4 Merc. unit)
- LRC
- OTC
- W.P.P.C.
So adding [MM] and {TW} would be a good idea, thx again! Btw, [MM] have already made an own map collection:

It's a rather huge download and I don't know which maps are included. Maybe there is some major overlap between these files and our MapPacks.
2) I didn't take the map "RedArena" into the Packs, because most of us (DD_SoE) don't like this map very much (me included). Nevertheless "RedArena" is on the current cycle list of DD_SoE main server (running 24/7). You can download this map and other single maps from the download-section here on this website.

Known Bugs of Custom Maps
Preliminary note
We tested all maps before adding them to the MapPacks. Nevertheless, no one can guarantee that these maps are completely without any bugs. Some of them have some minor bugs indeed, but despite of this we think they are worth being played.
1) Common bugs affecting several maps
Jump jets
Several custom maps have minor bugs concerning buildings and jump jets. Depending on the choosen Mech chassis jumps jets sometimes don't work as usual on certain map areas.
Building bugs
Furthermore, there are some building bugs at some maps, but this a thing also well-known from many of the official standard maps. For instance, sometimes you can jump from the bottom up through solid ceilings/floors (examples: ThunderDome, INSANE, HawksNest).
Bots
Last no least, not all of these custom maps are "bot friendly". In some maps they are completely useless, getting stuck at spawn and doing absolutely nothing (INSANE for example, so this map runs without bots on our server).
2) Known bugs of single maps
- Beartrap
Bots are rather useless and will mainly stay at spawn
- Desolate
Map boundaries seem to be incorrect at some of the spawns. Choosing team 1 and team 2, spawn will be outside of map bounderies sometimes. Then bots or players will get stuck outside the map and you have to suizide for respawn. Choosing teams 3 and 5 seems to work better.
- HawksNest
=> see above! Some ramps won't work properly.
- INSANE
=> see above! No attrition or destruction available, only teams
- MekTropolis
Mechs easily get stuck at the corners of the ramps
- ThunderDome
There are no ramps to climb to the upper floor, you have to jump throug the floors from the bottom up (=> see above)
- Vegas
It's a very hot desert map but, strange to say there is a big river across this map. Walking into this river will NOT give the usual cooling effect in "heat on" games. Water must be boiling hot there
Squaregarden
There are severe bugs near the ammunition dumps, which may cause the game crash to desktop. Firing weapons in this direction or jumping on these buildings seems to be critical. Obviously the effect depends on mech chassis. With an Osiris for example there are no problems at all, but using other chassis like Shadowcat and Thor may give that bug.
Action to take: Squaregarden will be removed from server "Special Maps" instantly. Additionally, next release of MapPack 0 will be without this map.
@Server admins: Plz remove Squaregarden from your server cycle list!

- Insurrection Island
The drop ship in one of the drop zones bounces rhythmically. Looks rather funny, but seems to have no further impact on map functionality.
Tinica
Shooting the ammunition dumps ("Waffenlager") may crash the game. Thx Jackalope from WPPC for reporting!

We rather often played tinica map and no one at =SoE= got this game ending bug till now. So it seems not to be such big problem.
In general, looks like all these maps with "ammunition dumps" suffer from this bug (Squaregarden, Bioethernal_Winter, and now Tinica).

habe dir mal `ne mail mit dem Mapinstaller geschickt.
der macht einen guten eindruck. die packs sind nicht viel
grösser . ich lass dir mal noch irgendwie das modifizierte
vol4 zum angucken zukommen.
ps: ich hab hier nur reingespamt falls du

Yes there are also some maps with mission play for Veng. For example "Arctic Assault", "Desertwar" or "Mek LunarRun". Didn't check them in multiplayer as yet, but might be a good idea.

Mediacenter hat bestens gefunzt, das ist genau dieser Clickteam Installer, den ich letztens auch meinte (Mail ist übrigens bis jetzt nicht angekommen...). Sieht ganz gut aus. Nachteil gegenüber dem jetzigen Verfahren ist lediglich, dass man nichts einstellen kann, wie bei schon vorhandenen Dateien verfahren werden soll. Ich werds aber mal beim nächsten MapPack antesten.

Btw, it's a great map collection on your web site (at download section). As a part of my search, I also checked this map package for additional good Veng maps, that we didn't know yet. Some of the maps from MapPack 5 are derived from there (very helpful suggestions indeed!).

Mit dem dritten SoE Map Pack ist das "Special Maps Projekt" für MW4 Vengeance aus meiner Sicht erstmal abgeschlossen. Ähnlich wie bei Mercs mit den MWL Map Packs oder den NBT CDs gibt es damit auch für Venge eine einfache Methode zur Installation der Custom Maps.
Das wichtigste ist aber natürlich: die Maps werden jetzt regelmäßig gespielt, z. Zt. Freitag und Sonntag Abend auf dem {SoE}FrostFight Server !
Falls noch irgendwelche Bugs oder sonstige Ungereimtheiten bei den Maps auftauchen sollten, bitte mir mitteilen oder hier posten (bisher bekannte Bugs s.o. hier im Topic unter dem Post "Known Bugs of Custom Maps").
